The study

Tested here, not borrowed from abroad

Most sleep claims on Indian shelves come from trials run somewhere else, on someone else. Valerian Dream was tested in India, on people drinking it the way you would — one cup, forty-five minutes before bed.

Valerian Dream at the bedside
What it's for

Three reasons it becomes a habit

Valerian has been taken at the end of the day in Indian and European herbal traditions for centuries.
Caffeine-free
Nothing in the cup working against you

Plenty of evening drinks still carry caffeine, green tea and chai among them. This carries none, so the cup is not undoing itself.

In the blend
Drinkable, which valerian usually isn't

Valerian alone is famously musky and most people manage it once. Chamomile, rose petals, lavender, peppermint and a little licorice carry that earthiness into something sweet and floral enough to finish.

The ritual
A cue, forty-five minutes out

The same cup at the same time gives the evening an edge to it. Nothing to taper, nothing to time your week around — just the kettle going on again.

How to brew

Five minutes, covered, then wait

Roots need longer than leaves, and a lid keeps the aromatics in the cup.
01
One bag, or 2g loose

Roots need more than a pinch. If you are using loose, an infuser with fine mesh saves the fishing.

02
Boiling water, five minutes

Cover the cup with a saucer. The aromatics are the point, and an open cup loses them to the kitchen.

03
Forty-five minutes before bed

Give it time to land. Most people take it plain; a little honey if the wood is too much at first.

The Kalimpong valley — where sugandhbala grows

Sugandhbala grows wild in the deep valleys of Kalimpong. We work with a small collective that harvests roots at full maturity, dries them in the shade, and ships to our Assam blending room within the same season — the aroma still carries its origin.

01
Harvested wild, not cultivated

The root grows deep in valley soils; wild-harvested roots concentrate the aromatic oils.

02
Shade-dried, never oven-dried

Slow drying keeps the essential oils intact, which is what you actually taste.

03
Blended fresh, in-season

Root, flowers and leaves reach the packing table within a season — the pouch still smells alive.

Soothing and calming tea

Valerian root plus chamomile is a smooth and calming tea to be taken 30 minutes before your sleep schedule. It has a great taste and gives you a calming effect which helps in sleep cycle. The quantity is good enough to last for a month and the pricing is justified. Tea bag is amusing to look at and is non habit forming. Go for it for a calming nights sleep.

The six herbs in Valerian Dream
How it's blended

Six herbs, and the reason for the other five

Valerian root on its own is a hard cup to finish. Chamomile and rose petals bring the sweetness, lavender and peppermint the top notes, licorice a little body. Blended, it becomes something you will drink every night — which is the only way a nightly cup does anything at all.

01
Roots cut, never powdered
Powder over-extracts and turns the cup sharp within a minute.
02
Valerian root from Kalimpong
From the valleys around Kalimpong, where it grows at altitude.
03
Certified organic, caffeine-free
No flavouring, no added sleep actives, nothing beyond the six herbs.
Questions

Asked before you buy

Anything else, write to us and a person on the estate team answers.

Ask a question →
Will it make me drowsy? +

It is a food, not a sedative, so it will not knock you out. Most people drink it as a wind-down cue about 45 minutes before bed rather than for a hard effect.

Does it really have no caffeine? +

None at all. Every one of the six herbs is caffeine-free, so there is nothing in the cup working against the evening.

Valerian smells strong — is the cup like that? +

The dry blend is woody and earthy. In the cup the chamomile, rose and lavender lift it into something sweet and floral that is easy to finish.

Bags or loose — which should I get? +

Bags are one-a-cup and tidy; the loose tin lets you adjust the strength. Same six herbs either way.

Is it safe with medication? +

It is a herbal food, but if you take prescription sleep or anxiety medicine, or you are pregnant, check with your doctor first.
